Meet Philippa Brownjohn - Personal Trainer, Sports Massage Therapist & Bowen Practitioner
Posted on March 31 2021

My name is Philippa Brownjohn, a personal trainer, sports massage therapist and Bowen practitioner. I am 57 years old and married to Paul with 2 sons from a previous marriage. James 28 living in London and Harry 25 currently living at home due to chronic illness. We also have a dog Molly.
I have been in the health and fitness industry for over 28 years and was a regular user of the gym and classes before that. I have competed in triathlons, am a competent swimmer (love outdoor swimming when the weather permits) and love trekking up mountains for pleasure.
Last year due to travel restrictions, Paul and I bought paddle boards and have set ourselves a target to complete the length of the Thames by the end of 2021! I am a keen baker and cook (I love TGBBO) and enjoy sitting round a table sharing a good home cooked meal with family and friends more than anything. This last 12 months has bought home how important our mental health is and how crucial having human contact and interaction is.
I love my job and no two days are ever the same. My clients are always bringing me new challenges which I greet with boundless enthusiasm. Giving people the confidence to overcome their frustrations and fears and encourage them to reach their goals however big or small.
Some of my clients have been with me for over 20 years and we have been through lots of fun and amazing times, as well as traumatic life changing situations.
My job is to not only train, provide treatments and get results but to also be there and support them through those times.
Everyone is unique and no two people should be treated the same when it comes to providing both fitness and injury rehabilitation programmes. We all have different limitations in life be it physical or psychological and our fitness and health goals should be centred around that.
When working with clients I am a firm believer in following a few simple rules, these are my top five:
FIVE SIMPLE RULES
CONSISTENCY: The key to attaining the results you desire, commit and plan accordingly.
SUSTAINABILITY: Do not take on anything you feel you would not be able to fully maintain over a period of time.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Take control, nobody else is to blame if you are not true to yourself.
REALISTIC GOALS: Make sure they are achievable otherwise you are setting yourself up for failure.
HONESTY: Always be completely honest with both yourself and your trainer/therapist. We are there to support and help you, not to judge.
Above all else, have fun!
So that’s me.... and here is how I would like to help you
Every other week we are going to cover a different subject and give you some helpful tips, ideas and hopefully some inspiration to either start you or support you on your fitness or rehabilitation journey.
We would also like to invite you to send in your questions which I will endeavour to answer to the best of my knowledge. We thought it would be a good way of communicating with you and to see how you are all getting on out there in these strange times. To share with others any obstacles you may have come up against and give some ideas on how to move forward.
Hope to hear from you very soon.
Philippa
